Today I wanted to talk about spiritual depression and how it can feel almost like being lost in a void.
I'm sure, some may think of spiritual enlightenment as someone being in a constant state of bliss and joy, however, those who are on this path know that is not entirely the case.
I can share from my personal experience, having been on this journey since I was a child, I have come to find that sometimes this path is not for the faint of heart.
I'm not certain why these bouts of spiritual depression occur, some say its healing of old energies.
For myself, this dark place or "void" can be brought on by the processes of enlightenment in which the death of the self, or the false self, is brought on. Especially when the detachment to all transient things is practiced. Then of course, the ego tries desperately to cling to these things, only making matters worse.
I can say from experience that this "void" is not exactly a nice place to be. Anyone who has experienced this space, can attest to this. This void can feel strange, difficult, and even overwhelming at times; it really can deeply confuse and unsettle us in a very real way. This can make life seem quite unsatisfying and you may even feel as if you are alone, lost somewhere in this space. It might even seem as if you were floating somewhere in between the physical and non physical reality, life and death, illusion and truth.
But just remember, opening up your soul and awakening to walk that line between duality and non duality, can be very trying at times. So even though you may be feeling as if nothing matters, and why do anything; the good news is that those feelings too, are transient. This is all part of the awakening process. Remember that you are not alone, and that it will indeed, all be worth it in the end.
Keep in mind that these stages of enlightenment can be quite tough, however they are just that; stages.
This too shall pass.
